The project

The National Dietary Guidelines aim to promote public health. They provide valuable information to all readers which is based on the most recent scientific knowledge and make the best use of the traditional Greek diet, considering also social and economic issues.

The eight volumes of the National Dietary Guidelines are grouped in four pairs:

  • Adults – a Guide to healthy nutritional choices for the general population
  • Women – Dietary guidance for women including women in pregnancy, lactation and menopause
  • Infants, children and adolescents – Dietary guidance to ensure a healthy mental and physical start to life and healthy development throughout the life course.
  • Adults 65 years and older – a Guide to promote healthy living and longevity and ensure the highest quality of life for older people (or at the later stages of life).
The first volume of each pair is addressed to the general population to be used as guidance and provide useful dietary and lifestyle recommendations. The second volume is addressed to health professionals (i.e., doctors, nutritionists etc), and provides up-to-date scientific evidence regarding diet and health. The aim is for professionals to use it as a support tool for their daily practice assisting them in encouraging people to make appropriate lifestyle and dietary choices.
